The bunch of us celebrated end of exam last friday by buying 13 bottles of wine... Yes, 13!
No, we didn't finish all 13 bottles but let's say I had a splitting headache and nausea for the whole of Saturday... Guess I overdid it...

Well, Monday was back to reality again as lessons continue... I'm currently doing my neurosurgery term... My first surgical term... and I must say it's exciting to look at the spinal cord in real life (not in some preserved specimen) for the first time.
Basically the patient had to have 4 spinal discs fused together and the spinal column was exposed in the process.. But boy was the surgery long... It started around 9am and ended only at 6pm... I was on my feet the whole time and did not get any lunch. To be fair the doctors did ask me to go for lunch but I was just too intrigued to want to go. How was I involved in the surgery? I was officially the bone collector and stitch cutter. I know it's no bad deal but I get to watch the whole surgery which was the highlight of my day... I was also allowed to put in a urinary drain into the patient who was going into surgery. We have always practice on dummies but this is the first time I had to do it on a real person.
Yesterday, there was a even cooler surgery but because it is an uncommon surgery a lot of people wanted to watch it and we were told that there were too many people and we can't stay to watch.. The surgery involved cutting open the person's skull while he's awake and then identifying the language center of the brain... How cool is that?! Well, I hope there are more interesting surgeries in the next few weeks... Till then, take care!
