For the past 4 years, I have been living without a TV most of the time. But since moving to the new apartment I have been able to catch up on world news via video feeds through internet. Today, I tuned in to a video broadcast and thought I would watch some news and it's all bad... Reports after reports of conflicts/ war around the globe. What kind of a world are we living in? Terrorists/ conflicts in Mumbai, continual war in Iraq, stabbings in China, shoot out in US. It's kinda of a depressing way to spend on a sunday.
The thing that bothered me most was that the stabbing in China and shoot out in the US was for the most insignificant reasons - a badly ended relationship and an argument between 2 women respectively. Granted that both situations were emotionally charged but they were senseless deaths. Has the human race lost much of their humanity? Have we become so caught up with our own little lives that we develop utter disregard to the lives of other innocent people? What kind of a world we are bringing kids up in?
I attribute much of the conflicts to the ever increasing stressful lives we are living. Fuses are much shorter and it does not take much for people to take it out on people who are vulnerable. It amazes me how people do not see how senseless the killings are and that how unnecessary they are. As one of my senior doctor said, "Pick your fights. Know what are things in life are worth fighting for and what are not." I could not agree more. Is a badly ended relationship worth killing innocent people and throwing your life away? Is an argument between 2 women worth the lives of 2 men? Is political disagreement worth the lives of thousands if not millions of innocent civilian lives? Why haven't humans learn from their history? The memories of World War 2 are not that remote. Have humans forgotten the sufferings our grandparents went through?
